Jeep tool box

We are putting a tool box in our jeep, we are new to the trails. So besides the obvious screwdriver etc., what do we need to keep us going on the trails? We have taken off our fender flares, and we can lay down our light bar. We have flexed the suspension to find our limits, we have climed over rock piles to check our clearance. I think we are ready except tools, what do you guys carry?

I carry my ratchet set, vice grips, breaker bar, a few adjustable wrenches, bungies, duct tape, and probably a bunch of other random things that got thrown in the offroading bag.

Speaking from my personal experience, get you a couple of extra U-joints.  They always seem to go first.  Dont want to be broke for such a cheap part.

I have 2 bags that are always in my jeep that I consider tools.
 the first has ratchets, pliers diagonal cutters, couple of hammers, zipties tape, fuses screw drivers wrenches you get the point here .
the second is my recovery gear. I would say in the least you need a 20 foot strap looped. no hooks. and a place on the jeep to attach them.  and any part you might not be sure about .(like jay said u-joint go  one the trail) there are check list all over the web that if you drive a 3/4 pick up you might be able to cram it all in. but it boils down to 1 thing you now your rig better that any one bring what you think you will need to fix it in the event you break it  :) there will be others there that will have tools to fix theres as well and everyone shares. you wont be left setting on the side of the trail

one thing i never thought of until i turned my cj upside down and watched it run out the dipstick.  oil.  coolent i had but not the 2 qt of oil i lost before we righted it.  the guys in my club saved my tail that day.  Never Wheel Alone.

Hose clamps, brake fluid, MORE than 1 set of vise-grips, a drift pin punch, RTV sealant, quart of gear lube. a sammich for me.... :icon_pimp:

U joints are a good thing to have... 1 1310 will be suitable for all your drive shafts, but i'd also make sure you have an attachment kit for whatever you run (ubolt or strap style). 

I carry more tools that almost everyone I know, and like it was said we all share on the trail.  1 thing very few carry that I think is a necessity is shop rags, it sucks to be covered in grease and have nothing there to clean up with before getting back in the jeep.

36mm socket & 13mm-12point socket are needed for most front axle repairs on I know XJs, YJs, and TJ's; so if those are not included in your set, you'll probably want to get them at some point.

Jimmy, good advice for most... but they aren't running stock axles.  They have full dodge ramcharger drivetrain.

Man, if you roll your jeep and the only thing you have to worry about is two qts of oil, CALL IT A GOOD DAY!!

Thanks guys, good advice! We have been pretty hard on our jeep and nothings broke yet but, trails and muddin are to different things! I'm sure we will over pack in tools the first time, but will narrow it down once we get a couple of trail runs under our belt.
