Bought new wheels and swung by mitchem's on kearney friday to have tires switched over. They did o.k. job at that part but sales guy ever so politely say's "I went ahead and aded new lug nuts for ya" without asking me first. That would be fine and let it slide but those new lugnuts are now cross threaded and stuck on my wheels. I can only barely take 1 frt tire off. Long story short 9 out of 20 lugnuts are good.
I'm now looking at getting the jeep towed (cause i have 3 off back tire and refuse to drive over there on just 2. And i'm getting the cold shoulder about replacing 11 wheel studs. Beside i'm sure they will screw up the brand new wheels in the fixing process if they do it.  Just a head's up, never had any problems from the cambell store. And go figure the sales guy at the kearney store dosen't want me takin it over to the campbell store (tryin to hide their screwup i figure).

i too had never had any problems with mitchem in the past. but the last time i went to buy tires, they quoted me $145 a tire on the phone, for the Daytona Timberline MT. got them orderd and when i dropped my jeep off, and went to pay the price was now $229 a tire!!! then i asked what happended to the original price and he told me that "$229 was a hell of a deal" i told him i was not going to pay that much for those tires. then he told me i had to at least pay the $100 that it cost him to ship them in from Joplin!!! i told him i would not be giving him a penny, i would never buy tires or wheels from there again!

this was at the campbell location.

i now go to Buds Tire and Wheel downtown!

Suppose to find out today if they will fix this or not, but im real nervous about them tearing into it to replace studs. Not only am i sure they will damage new wheels (positive they won't replace those). But if they mess up a simple tire r&r , do i want them tearing into it deeper to replace these. This will be the LAST time i deal with mitchem's, and i have been goin there for yrs.
Imagin out playin on a trail somewhere and your little voice keeps askin if they fixed it right this time. WHEW cold chill  lol

I had Sears do the same thing.  They stripped 14 of 20 lug nuts, while me and my dad watched them.  We could hear the impact tighten and then spin.  Now, anytime that I take any of my vehicles anywhere I tell them to hand start all the lugs.  They get in a hurry and just impact them on.  That's what the Nascar guys do - right!
I cut sheetmetal for free.  It's fixing it that get's expensive.

i always take mine to joes tire shop, they use an impact wrench a little then finish tightening with hand, always much better in my opinion

I was at Joe's and watched a new guy hand torque down a nice cars lugs with a torque wrench with a torque tube attached.... just because they do it by hand doesn't mean they do it right.  That dude got reamed by the "little person" working there.  He didn't see the torque wrench until the car was gone down the road.

Don't get me wrong, I've always had good luck with Joe's.  I stopped by there Saturday to get an opinion about tire quality on my truck (one tire's been curbed a few too many times).  The girl was honest and said I was okay with what I had.  I'm sure any other shop would have been hard selling me for 4 new ones.
I'd put something funny here, but you probably wouldn't get it anyway...

every time i had my nissan tires rotated, at least 3 lug nuts would get stripped...ive lost a tire twice due to this...now i am the only one that touches my tires and wheels...that or i stand there and watch the mechanic put them on by hand.  mechanics dont care, it doesnt matter if its joes, buds, or mitchems, if you get the tired azz mechanic thats been burned by at least 100 brake rotors and has no feeling left in his hands, he doesnt give a crap about your lug nuts.

Go to Springfield Tire downtown. Best service around.
Once in a while that perfect part rolls around that the redneck craftsman sees and goes, "this would be just perfect as a ________."
