Infamous Grand Cherokee Electrical problem...
« on: 11/21/07 - 06:57PM »
Well, my wife and I recently bought our first Jeep, a 2004 Grand Cherokee Laredo, and a couple of days ago it started having some electrical issues with the gauges and the radio acting up. It will be driving along fine and all of a sudden most of the gauges will freak out the brake and check gauges light will come on, and the radio will shut off. This will last for about 5 seconds and then it will all go back to normal. However after this the voltmeter will bounce between 12 and 16. This usually only happens once while it is running and when you shut it off, its like you disconnect and reconnect the battery. The clock on the radio resets but the preset stations stay, and the keyless entry wont work until the "blackout" happens. I've check a couple of other forums and other people that this has happened to said its not the alt or the battery. and that going to a dealership will cost you about $1200  :'( in parts and diagnostics.  Supposedly it might be a problem with the PCM. I was just wondering if anybody on here has had or heard of this problem and how it got fixed.  Any help is appreciated. Thanks and God Bless.

Hey Spencer... is there no dealer warranty left on it? If you can get the codes it's posting; then post them up in here... I or someone else can tell you what they mean. Might help you to pinpoint the problem.

Nada on the warranty, it has 71k on it. I'll try to get any trouble codes so that I can get more help.
