New JK FOUND
« on: 10/19/06 - 11:36AM »
I found an 07 X 2dr model last night at Springfeild Jeep on Glenstone.  Its inside. That thing looked huge! Its several inches wider, with the hood having no extra bumps in it that makes it look wider. And those flares and bumpers. Please anyone who has gotten a look at the normal stock bumpers for these laugh with me. Its like the all now plastic wranger! The front bumper is so darn BIG and no winch could be put on there. The flars in the front make me ill. I don't like that they stick out past the nose and that they are so darn wide. The back door is really long so that it swings out all crazy. The front doors are as the dealer said about 2xs the weight and they did feel really heavy. I'm not weak but the normal full steel doors are heavy to me. These might make a lot of people skip taking the doors off. There is no more deep foot wells. When you get in the pace where your feet are is about the same level as the bottom of the door. Truthfully I like my foot wells being deep. I stuff a lot of stuff like my winch control and mallett right there beside the seat.

When I got in it didn't feel like a simple Jeep anymore. For some I'm sure thats going to be a plus, but for me I like the simple Jeep look of the past. The seats were comfy but sat taller as the soft top roof felt like it was way closer to the top of my head than my 06'. The back seats are seats now and much less of the bench model like I have now. Probably a better ride back there. The seats were covered in something like a fake leather, which I think will work well with mud and dirt, looks like it'd just wipe off, however it was cold to the touch when I was in there so it might be cold in the winter and hot in the summer.

For me I love my Jeep and not a second of hesitation about getting the 06' was rasied last night when I saw the 07. I think for a mall Jeep it's going to do well. For a Off-road machine it has a lot of work that has to be done first. If it were me I'd have both front and rear bumpers replaced with metal off-road types right away. Next would come the normal lift, tires, and off-road gear.

Last thoughts... it's not for me, its a little too dressed up on the inside for me, I don't like what's happened to the flares and bumpers most. I think with the right amount of money in extras you could get it up to par though.

There was actually a new 4 door at Fall Fest on friday.  It's a really big vehicle and knowing who owns it I'm sure it will be lifted as soon as a kit becomes available.

I've yet to see a new 2 door.

The new JP mag. has a good article on the new JK's.  How many stock bumpers do you see on TJ's?  Take em off and replase with aftermarket ones.  and they say the fender flares can take the punishment real well.

The new "ebs" i think it's called sounds pretty neet.  almost like haveing a locker.  I'd love to see one on the trail, and see what it can really do.

I won't owne one, but only because I love my tj, and do not need a new jeep.

Now if the Gladiator ever comes out.....well I'll be first in line!

They don't look to bad when you put the bushwacker flares on them, but they could use a bumper change.

With the Federal standards, Jeep had to put on the plastic bumpers.  It doesn't mean the have to stay though.  The front flares are designed to be easily removed for trails.  I saw a video of the Unlimited on the Rubicon Trail, and it looks really long.  But I think I read it's the same wheel base as an XJ, so lifted and bigger tires and it will be a beast off road.

All that said, after wheeling the junk that I have been, I don't think I can go back to a new vehicle on the trials.  Too nerve racking for me.

There was a new 2 door Rubi with lift and 35's in Hot Springs last weekend going through the trails. It would go good. He took it up some class 4's pretty easy.
I'm going to get a new 4 door for the wife when I can find one. There are some coming in Arkansas. I drove a Sahara 4 door the other day, pretty cool, but it was that rescue green color. Not to fond of green. It had a 44 rear and 4:10 gears. I'm sold. I heard they may be coming out with different motor options later. Imagine(can you say HEMI).
