« on: 11/11/07 - 04:40PM »
Installining hardtop 0n 89 YJ, never had one on before. Do I need to take off the channel brackets on the windsheild, and also around the top of the rear tub, where the hardtop rests? Thanks

Yes.  Remove all the old soft top metal, including the rails that go up the windshield frame.

if it has never had one you might have to mess with the windshield angel a bit also

Thanks, Next question, "Get rid of my soft top? I've also have a safari top, figure the hardtop to be a Sep to May deal. Use the safari top in summer, w/ a trail cover at night. just don't want to regret getting rid of the soft top.

Only if you like monkeying with that hard top all the way until the weather clears.  I had Oldyj's old hard top for a single season, and liked it until the weather was nice in dec., jan, feb, etc. and I saw all the other Heepers running around with their tops dropped & doors off. Sold it right after that.  Unless you drive a ton of miles to work on the highway, most likely you'll hate the hard top in a season or 2.  Hold on to the soft top as a back up plan, unless you need cash for other upgrades.....or rent.....or groceries....I'm sure you get the picture.

Make sure to clean it real good, and make sure it is stored in a cool, DRY clean area.  Soft tops WILL rot.
