Manifold vs. Header
« on: 07/29/09 - 02:15PM »
When i took the heart out of my 88 because it sounded like a mechanical bomb i started to tear it apart and found my manifold had long small hairline cracks in it so now i am in search of a new replacement. I have heard a header is way better for flow over a manifold, sounds better, and more power, but its going on a 4.0 whats your thoughts on it?

Headers are cheap and offer better flow.

I have noticed they are more smoother flowing from looking around. But the price is a little more and i have only found one place that has a header for a 88! :'(

Ya, looks like ours start at 91, should have used a 4.0 block i guess?

I have a 4.0 block its just the newer header would bolt up but i don't have the spot for the o2 sensor or the pipe that runs along my throttle body

If you have a 4.0 block, then get a 4.0 header.  Just put a pipe plug in the 02 spot.  What tube do you need the reheat?

I said header huh? sorry i ment i have a 90's manifold, it bolts up but it dosn't have the spot for a O2, but i have been told i can make a spot for that, but above that there is a pipe that runs to some vaccum or something right beside my throttle body (choke maybe? its EFI) and there is no spot for it, i make that fit too? or just go and buy that header (that time i mean header)

I cleaned the intake up, what the tube goes to is the EGR Vac. is what it says. The new manifold i got a while back dosn't have that spot is really the only problem, would it work ok with out what ever the EGR is unhooked?

is your manifold used?
