Heater Blower Motor no work HELP.
« on: 11/30/06 - 10:14PM »
On the way home from work today my blower motor stopped working. It had been going out and coming back on for a month or so now. But now it won't start again at all. I have tested the switch to the motor with a tester and it is getting juice okay.. not sure the correct amount, but it works on all settings (feet, defrost, ac, etc...) I then took the blower motor out, and hook it straight to the battery. It come on fine... and sounds good. no bearing noise to mention. Has anyone got an idea of what the problem could be. It picked a fine time to quit working.

HELP!

This is a 2005 Rubicon...

This should be covered under warranty, but if I can fix it myself for just a couple bucks... I would rather do that then go through all the hub-bub of taking the jeep in and leaving it for a day.

On our 02 TJ we had a problem of the fan only working on high.  There is a resistor or something like that under the glove box that I replaced and it fixed it.  Ordered it from Jeep and took a couple of days to come in.  I can't remember how much it cost but I believe it was under $50.

I'd put something funny here, but you probably wouldn't get it anyway...

Did you check the fuses on the firewall?  Not trying to make you feel like a tard, but you mentioned that you checked everything but the links.

BIG KUDOS TO SPFD JEEP.

I called and asked if they had the resister and they did, but when I got there they went ahead.. without an appointment mind you... and took a look at it for me. It was the motor. THey replaced it.. it's still under warranty.  Those guys over there are awesome and have treated me like royalty every time I've dealt with them.

Yes Dick I did check fuses on the firewall, well mine are on the wheel wall, and I checked fuses behind the GBox. When I hooked it up the battery straight, it worked fine... but SPFD JEEP said it was something with the connector on the motor itself, so they just replaced the motor. I know have heat!

Thanks guys. I appreciate your input.

Just posting back up on this and what the dealer said in case anyone ever has this problem.

Just because you can hook a blower motor directly to the battery and make it come on doesn't mean that all is well with the motor. If the plug on the side of the motor is bad which was my case, then the whole motor needs replaced.
