Installing new gears?

Any recommendations for someone to install gears.  I want it done right, but also at a cheap price.  Shade tree mechanics welcome.

Question for you guys that have changed gears...the YJ came stock with 3.07..I am wanting to install some 4.56..those of you who have 4.56, do you find that your top end barely meets the legal speed limit out on the hwy or is it just fine with the 456? I guess I shud've mentioned that I do run 33x12.50..from what I have read so far, many say that the 4.56 should be just abt right..would still like your input..tnx

With 33's it will be about right to have power and not be over working the motor.  I've run 4:88's with 33's and it still wasn't over revving or anything.

Just FYI - I have a place in Nevada, MO that does gear installs with a good reputation.  The are doing the install right now and quoted me $100 per axle for labor, if I supply the parts and that included the Ected lockers installed as well. Great deal!

I think that 4.56 is ideal with 35" tires, not sure about 33".  I had 4.88's with 35's and it was too low to do a lot of highway driving so I put on 37's.  Do you have an overdrive?

Yes, I do have 5th (Over drive)..but with the 33x12.50's only time I get to use it is on a long down hill stretch..I usually dont do any fwy or 65mph + driving..love the slower pace and back roads more so I figure 4.56 gears would pull better on the road and work even better on the trail.

Hey give Phils auto repair a call  417-468-2339. He is in Marshfield and caters to the  4X4s he is good and resonable. I had him do work on my jeep and I believe shamoo has too.
